Since 2013 Fabia Bausch, together with her partner Nicholas Negre, have been running the Safrai Lodge „Chem, Chem“ (www.chemchemsafari.com) in Tanzania. One gets a clear indication of the love and passion this couple have towards the precious wild life and their much loved Africa when you see the amount of work they have put into the game reserve which they started from scratch. At the same time they are putting a philanthropic project into practice with the aim of helping nature to survive. They provide board and lodging for those people who would like to get to know Africa from a different perspective where beauty, nature and time know no bounds.
I have known Fabia Bausch from my HR days in the world of Finance. At that time she was a passionate investment banker, who in a business dominated by men, was most successful thanks to her ability to focus, her hard working attitude and her disciplined approach. I discovered Fabia again via Linked a while ago and was instantly very impressed by her new way of life and new vocation.
How did this happen? Fabia Bausch had become disillusioned with her life in the finance industry. She had discovered that a life based purely on materialistic things was very boring. „ Life is to be lived and not bought“ and with those words she busied herself with her new future. Today, together with her partner, she runs the game reserve and lodge with 140 employees.
I am very much looking forward to sharing my conversation with Fabia Bausch with you as part of my series of „inspiring people“ interviews – a natural source of inspiration from Tanzania. Wie würde Dich der Mensch, der Dich gut kennt mit wenigen Worten beschreiben?
Mittelmass kommt für mich nicht in Frage. Selbständig, ehrlich, spontan, rücksichtsvoll, abenteuerlich.
Was ist für Dich mutig?
Ehrlich mit und zu sich selbst zu sein. Alles hat einen Preis im Leben.
Man muss nur wissen für was man, welchen Preis zu zahlen bereit ist. Mut ist die Energie, die uns hilft über unsere Grenzen hinaus zu gehen. So sehe ich Mut im generellen. Mut ist für mich aber auch oft etwas ganz leises und zartes, das ich gar nicht bewusst wahr nehme. Etwas, das mich immer still und fürsorglich durch mein Leben begleitet. Und dann gibt es den offensichtlichen Mut, wenn man sich entscheidet, den Everest zu besteigen usw.
Wann hast Du Dich das letzte Mal einer Herausforderung gestellt, wobei Du wirklich Mut gebraucht hast?
Mut – ich denke bedeutet auch Vertrauen in sich selbst zu haben und zu wissen, dass man auf dem richtigen Weg ist, und dass es immer Lösungen gibt – manchmal aber ganz andere, als man sich gedacht hat. Es braucht Mut, um aus 20 Metern ins Wasser zu springen und es braucht Mut, aus einem alten Muster auszusteigen. Das sind unterschiedliche Emotionen. Ich brauchte Mut und war mir dessen auch bewusst, den Schritt aus dem Finanzumfeld ins Ungewisse zu machen. Und ich denke seit ich in Afrika lebe, brauche ich viel Mut, um an meinen Weg zu glauben und immer weiter zugehen – da kommen Aufgaben auf mich zu, mit denen ich nie gerechnet habe – doch daran wächst man.
Wie läuft es ab für Dich? Wie gehst Du vor in solchen Situationen?
Oft passiert das ja intuitiv, und manchmal ist es auch ganz gut, etwas naiv im positiven Sinne zu sein. Sicherlich muss ich das Pro und Kontra abwägen – doch meistens weiss ich zu innerst genau, was ich zu tun habe. An sich glauben, das ist das, was Angst macht.
Was für einen Rat , Gedanken oder eine Inspiration würdest Du Menschen in einer ähnlichen Situation mitgeben?
Nicht daran zu denken, was man verlieren kann, sondern was man alles gewinnen kann – an sich zu glauben und zu wissen, dass das Leben es gut mit einem meint.
