’Stopping’ from time to time is key for your moving forward…
It is that time of the year again. It is summer and you already have a good seven months of the 2018 behind you. Seven months of productivity, moving forward, focusing, doing, acting and achieving. Specially in today’s very demanding working world, where being constantly competitive is the norm. Hats off to you!
Now, constant action needs energy and drive. Without stopping from time to time, you miss strengthening the foundation for your actions, specially if you are constantly submerged in work and rarely treat yourself to some quality time off, e.g. a proper summer break.
So if you haven’t taken a good break yet, now is a good opportunity. By taking some proper time off, you reenergise your core, strengthen the spirit of moving forward and ensure higher productivity for the second half of the year.
Now what is a proper time off? How to rejuvenate and refuel? Here are some ideas:
Unplug – switch off your devices; you don’t have to be available all the time.
Stop doing – start being; go out for a leisurely walk, watch your surroundings, sit on your favourite café and do nothing.
Take care of your entire fitness – physically, mentally and emotionally - refresh your mind and reenergise your body.
Spend quality time with friends and family, but also create your own ‘ME time.’
Reduce / manage your commitments; not everything you think must be done must be done.
Spend time in the nature, enjoy studying the trees, the grass, the flowers, the rivers, the sea, the mountains, the birds and the butterflies – there is always a bit of nature you can get close to.
Allow yourself to be ‘planless’; it’s OK not to know what to do the next day.
Allow yourself to be timeless; leave your watch and your smartphone at home and go for a long walk or a hike or read your favourite books, those which have been waiting to be read for a long time.
Should you not be able to stop thinking and doing for whatever reason, let yourself be inspired by Anthony Robbins, the American author, life coach and motivational speaker. Listen to some of his talks on increasing life quality. He is brilliant. I love his following thoughts on the topic of energy:
“The higher your energy level, the more efficient your body, the better you feel and the more you will use your talent to produce outstanding results.”
Take the courage to “stop” from time to time for the sake of being able to move forward with the desired energy and drive for the rest of 2018. Enjoy your time off your way…
