Stop making assumptions! They hold you back from „moving forward“...
Assumptions are a starting point for an action or inaction. I have been watching job seekers and people in career transition often holding themselves back from “moving forward” by making assumptions. Be it for whatever reason they cannot or do not want to take the courage to look for the facts, for the way things really are or really work.
In general, assumptions just help people to hide in their comfort zone. They prevent people from looking fear in the eye and having the courage to face it. Indeed nowadays some aspects of one’s professional future and the challenges of today’s job market may seem a bit scary. Nevertheless, avoiding hard work, not facing reality, foregoing chances and possibilities by going along with assumptions, is not the way to go.
I love what Margie Warrell says: “Assumptions limit possibilities. Which ones are limiting you?“
So let’s open some doors and discover new opportunities by taking a deeper look at the assumptions that are standing in your way. Take the courage to challenge your assumptions by asking yourself some hard questions. Look at where the assumptions come from and why you need them? From which truth do they really save you? Where would you end up if you went along with them? Which price would you be paying by letting them govern your future path?
Take the courage to NOT allow your assumptions to be the drivers of your „moving forward“. They will just trap you in your comfort zone and that’s the least likely place to make the future happen...
