It is indeed up to you how you choose to move forward…

I came across a video on the future of work produced by the BBC the other day ( It certainly made an impression, so much so that I would like to share some of my thoughts about it with you.

The video features a human manager interviewing a female robot. The content of the interview is as follows:

Human manager: “So what would you say your strengths are?”

Female robot: “ I excel in repetitive high volume tasks and have an excellent memory.”

Human manager: “Where do you see yourself five years from now?”

Female robot: “I will be more intelligent than you. I will have your job.”

Human manager: “Where will I be?”

Female robot: “That is up to you!”

This female robot has been given very realistic human features. She talks so naturally, looking the human manager straight in the eye. She talks in a pleasant and well-measured tone of voice. Amazing!

This one very short and clear sentence: “That is up to you!” turns the future work of human kind abruptly on its head. It points to a world full of uncertainties, a world full of question marks. However an “up to you” world leaves so much room for exploration and creation.

An unpredictable “up to you” work future where change is the norm, and in which everything is up to you, up to us looks likely. It is up to us to accept the VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity) future as the norm and to take charge of our destiny. In order to be able to do so, there is only one way:

Get future ready or stay future-proof by making creativity, integrity, learning, collaboration and curiosity the basic components of your daily life.

My blogs “how to stay future-proof” ( and “What type of courage is needed to advance professionally in a digital world?” ( inspire you further.

Take the courage to move forward by making the “up to you future” your own…
