“If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way…”
Those of you who have read my blogs: Stop limiting yourself – it holds you back from moving forward and Moving forward does not happen alone – get the support and inspiration you need are aware by now that I love swimming in the lake. Here is another short story that also relates to my swimming - I promise that this is the last one. Given that the summer season has come to an end, I had thought that I would have to stop swimming till next summer. This made me somehow feel very sad and a bit depressed at not being able to do what I love just because the winter was heading our way.
So I made the decision to continue swimming for as long as the temperatures allowed and that is what I did. However after the autumn holidays the temperature of the water dropped and it became colder and colder every day. I was concerned that the cold water would soon force me to stop swimming, but what could I do?
I talked to some people and they suggested that wearing a good thick wetsuit could help me to continue doing what I am passionate about throughout the winter. At this point you should bear in mind that I am the one who usually starts swimming in the lake when the temperature is no lower than 20 degrees, but let me tell you that I got to know a completely different side of myself. In short, I got my wet suit, gloves, socks and shoes from the dive shop near by and continue to do what I really want and love to do. It is really cool! I love it and am also quite proud of myself for being so thick skinned.
This experience made me think of the quote by Jim Rohn: “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way...”
The art is first of all to have or to develop the will power, determination, commitment and courage to stand by what we really want. In my work as a career coach I quite often come into contact with people who tend to choose the easier route and find excuses why they could not really take the path that they love and want to follow.
What about you? When was the last time that you really tried everything possible to find a way to do something that you really wanted to do in your professional life? Or did you try to do your best to find enough excuses, not to do?
Personally I also believe in what Paulo Coelho says in The Alchemist: ”And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
So if you want to achieve that next thing in your professional life and you really want it badly enough – then take the courage, go after it and find a way…
