Work post-Corona needs more courage than ever...
How will your work post-Corona be impacted? Which challenges will the industry you work in be facing? What will be the impact of the crisis on the organisation you work for? How will the job markets develop? These and similar questions are on the minds of most of the workers and employees at all levels.
I have had many conversations with professionals over the past three months. Whilst there are a number of voices of uncertainty and fear, it is also good to see and to hear also voices of positivity, hope and optimism, as the latter lead to the creation and development of our work in the future. Here is where we start considering new possibilities.
I believe that work post-Corona will be, more than ever, driven by countless different opportunities and possibilities. Work post-Corona will lead us into an “Letting go of the past” and “Anything goes” attitude as the Zukunftsinstitut stated recently in its white paper "Die Wirtschaft nach Corona".
I also believe that in work post-Corona, “Disruption” will be, more than ever, needed. Disruptive career paths, disruptive ways of working, disruptive leadership styles and more.
Work post-Corona will require us to go back to our roots. "Man's search for meaning” will be the way to go. On this basis such questions as: Who are we? What are our values? What is really important to us in life and work? What can we do really best? What is our real potential? What are the obstacles in our way which, to date, we refused to recognize? What kind of lifestyle do we want to follow? What kind of impact do we want to make through our work? What kind of work do we really want to do? Will be key to create our post-Corona work life.
However, in order to ask ourselves these kinds of questions, a courageous mind-set is required. A mind-set of this sort, that most of us might not be used to. This kind of mind-set is on a higher level, on a level much further away from our comfort zone. A level, that leads us towards growth and moving forward in a very conscious way, that drives us towards our real needs and purpose in both our personal and professional life.
Work post-Corona, will also require a higher level of resilience and the ability to have trust in our-selves. It requires the courage to never give up and to keep moving forward one step after the other despite the obstacles and difficulties in the way. It requires the courage to keep getting up and trying again despite failing and falling. It requires us to not lose our optimism, to take responsibility for ourselves and our decisions and actions and to get the help and support we need.
In a nutshell, in my view staying “future proof” post-Corona with regards to our work and our career will take, in addition to courage, the ability to reflect, decide and act, much more pro-activity, creativity, adaptability, flexibility and upscaling. At the end of the day, the creative minds, the agile minds and the courageous minds are the ones who will, now more than ever lead the game.
Take the courage to move forward in your post-Corona work and career path. Not sure how to proceed…
