The art is to NOT “get cold feet” when opportunities within your comfort zone emerge…
When it comes to a new career orientation process and achieving goals, especially those that are somewhat “out of the box” and/or that head to totally new shores, the path to achievement can seem very challenging.
I have many conversations with people in career transition, who have committed to following a completely new path and find themselves somewhere in the middle of it, when opportunities of some sort within their own comfort zone crop up.
These people have gone through a great deal of reflection, have recognized the need to change, have made the decision to take a new path, to change, to start over again… They have started to commit to their passion, their wishes and desires and have finally found the urge to go out and find or create the job that they really want…
And exactly at the time, where things start to get challenging, where big doubts come up and they find themselves asking: Am I doing the right thing? Just at the time when their enthusiasm and energy levels may have slowed down a little, nice comfortable opportunities are offered to them. Now what?
If they signed a contract straight away and committed to a job within the luxury of their comfort zone, this would save them from going through a lot of trouble. It would prevent them from having to overcome a great many obstacles and from facing job insecurity. It would be easy for them to find many reasons, why that offer could seem so attractive. However, they should take the time to realise that this instant “fix” will not provide an ideal solution with regards to their future career, the career that they would actually like to have. Here, I am talking about those individuals who are financially secure.
Sadly many of these people get cold feet and unfortunately opt to stay in their comfort zone, to take the short-term solution, but with the promise to continue to focus on what they would like to do in the future. And we all know in reality what that means, at least for most people…
It is so easy to fall back into the trap of staying in your comfort zone and to neglect or “postpone” the work you really want to do. The art is to stay tough when it gets tough. There is and will always be some kind of offer, some opportunity or other. The art is to not lose sight of your commitment towards your future goals, have the courage to work hard and to be patient and most of all to give yourself the time required…
Take the courage to move forward by having faith, trust and confidence in yourself and remember the future waits for no one…
