Take the courage to follow your intuition…
I have just finished working on a project. Even though my gut feeling, my intuition, was not 100 % pro this project, I decided to be rational and committed myself to the project. Whilst working on the project there were many occasions when I thought that things did just not feel right. My gut feeling kept reminding me: “ I told you so.” Despite my feelings I finished the project, but I still think that I should have listened to my gut feeling. I will treat this as an opportunity to learn from experience whilst moving forward.
This experience made me think of the value of this free resource we all have within us. Some of us more, some less… Personally, I am a great believer in this “sixth sense”. It has always guided me inthe right direction.
Now how often have you had this inner voice whispering to you, giving you a good or bad feeling about something, giving you direction and yet you have decided to take the rational approach? How often have you said to yourself: “If I had only justlistened to myself?”
Whilst moving forward in our life and career we are all confronted with decisions. The question is does our intuition help us to make better decisions? I do not want to go into too much theory here. It has been proven to me over and over again, be it with regards to my own experiences or those of my clients or people around me – our intuitive mind is usually right. Usually if it feels right then it is right.
We can spend time analysing, we can have all the facts on the table, we can ask people’s opinions and yet in the end it is our gut feeling, our instinct, our sixth sense or whatever you care to call it that guides us to go for it or not. Recently I listened to a Ted Talk that compared intuition with a “GPS” system within us. One which guides us to take the right directions and to make the correct decisions. I love this comparison. It is so to the point.
Last, but not least, intuition is seen as one of most valuable qualities of leaders such as Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Warren Buffet and more. They see their intuition as a valuable contributor to their enormous success. Steve Jobs once said:
“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become.”
Do you rely far too much on your rational mind as you move forward with your career and life? Have you forgotten about the power of your intuitive mind?
Take the courage and create some room for this valuable resource within you! How? Just keep an open mind and listen out for it. It is there! As Rumi once said: “There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen.”
