“A closed door provides the opportunity for a huge gate to open.”
“If one door closes – a huge gate opens instead”. This is the belief of Wisi Zgraggen, a Swiss farmer who lost both his arms in an accident some years ago. Maybe you already know his story thanks to the book by Barbara Lukesch: “A Farmer’s Life – the incredible story of Wisi Zgraggen.”
I attended an event the other day where I heard Wisi talking about his strong will and the incredible courage required to continue his life despite having no arms. His story touched me emotionally, so much so, that I wanted to dedicate a few lines to him.
Wisi is a passionate farmer with a strong spirit and a powerful will. So much so, that just after his accident, he managed to find the strength to think about the future of his farm. Since then he and his father have worked out strategies and have done everything possible to run their farm successfully. Wisi is so passionate about his work and life as a farmer that giving up has never been an option for him.
I love his belief that any closed door provides the opportunity for a huge gate to open.
So regardless of the difficulties and challenges confronting you during your new orientation process (especially those of you who have lost your jobs and cannot stop looking back at those closed doors) allow yourself to be inspired by Wisi and look forward into the future. Look for those huge gates waiting to be opened.
Take the courage to look ahead and do not forget for one moment that in order to move forward you need will power and courage…
